Every year the state of Iowa conducts screenings for the OPUS Honor choir. This choir represents some of the best of Iowa's middle school singers. Students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade will have the opportunity to learn and practice the screening materials. Some parts will be practiced during the school day as they benefit all learners on their singing journey. A short song component will be taught during before or after school practices. These occur once or twice a week for 4 weeks. Practices begin August 28th and End September 25th. For each grade's practice schedule, go to the choir website's OPUS page to learn more, or check your email for a message from Gorman.
Every year Washington Middle School has sent singers out into the community to sing for different organizations, churches, businesses, and community homes. We practice starting at the beginning of Quarter 2, and meet two times a week. On December 11th, 2025 - we will have an entire day run out (including a visit to Lincoln and Stewart) that will include a visit to PIZZA RANCH for lunch! Students will also sing in the intermission between the band and choir concert December 22nd. Visit the Christmas Carolers tab to learn more about our practices.
If you run a business that wants us to visit that day, send me (Mr. Gorman) an email or call the WMS office so I can call you back!
**More resources will be coming when school starts!**
